Glossary

CFD: A contract for difference — an agreement to exchange the change in an asset’s price without owning the asset itself.
Leverage: Borrowed capital that lets you control a larger position with a smaller deposit. It magnifies both profits and losses.
Lot: A standardised trade size. One standard forex lot equals 100,000 units of the base currency.
Margin: The funds required to open and maintain a leveraged position, expressed as a percentage of the trade size.
Pip: The smallest standard price increment in a currency pair — usually the fourth decimal place (0.0001), or the second decimal for JPY pairs.
Spread: The difference between the bid (sell) and ask (buy) price. It represents the cost of entering a trade.
Stop loss: An order that automatically closes a position at a preset level to limit a potential loss.
Swap: The interest credited or charged for holding a leveraged position overnight.
